METOLONG AUTHORITY SIGNS TWO CONTRACTS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF DOWNSTREAM WATER CONVEYANCE SYSTEM

The Metolong Authority (MA) signed two contracts for downstream conveyance system with Unik Construction Engineering and Wilson Bayly Holmes Ovcon Construction (WBHO) to the value of M378 million and M265 million respectively at Maseru Sun on Wednesday.

The contracts were signed with the motive of completing the cycling of water to Maseru, Roma, Mazenod and Morija.

Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Natural Resource, Mr. Monyane Moleleki said he is proud and happy for the occasion since the project has been in the lips and minds of MA stakeholders for years.

The Minister congratulated UNIK Construction Engineering and WBHO Construction for fairly winning the contracts, saying that MA stakeholders have confidence that the construction companies will do an excellent job within the expected period.

Mr. Moleleki appealed to contractors to treat citizens with respect and dignity throughout the process of the project.

He also expressed gratitude to financing institutions for landing a hand in making the project a success.

Also speaking was the MA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Idris Mahmoud who expressed his satisfaction for signed contracts and further congratulating constructors for winning contracts.

Mr. Mahmoud emphasized the need to ensure that citizens benefit from the project during its progression.

He appealed to the winning companies to deliver quality services and promote the objectives of MA in the project, noting that contractors will be monitored for their performance.

On the other hand, Unik Construction Managing Director, Mr. Hongbo Wang thanked MA for awarding the project to his company.

He pledged to keep their commitment in completing the project effectively through teamwork.

Meanwhile, WBHO Divisional Managing Director, Mr. Denis Bean said he is proud to be in the country to deliver valuable assets for Basotho and pledged to deliver quality services in time.

Among the present during the signing ceremony included MA Board members, the Millennium Challenge Account Chief Executive officer, Deputy Country Director and Development Partners.

The first contract valued at M378 million is for the pipeline to Maseru and was signed with Unik Construction Engineering, while the second contract to the value of M265 million will be utilised for the pipelines to Roma, Mazenod and Morija and was signed by WBHO Construction.

Both contracts were funded by the European Investment Bank.

Other development funders of Metolong Programme include the Government of South Africa, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Saudi Fund for Development, Arab fund for Economic Development in Africa, the Abu Dhabi Fund, Millennium Challenge Corporation, the World Bank and OPEC Fund for International development.
